Big Girl.

It's probably long over-due, but yesterday we set about teaching Sienna to ride without training wheels. She's always been quite physically timid, probably our own fault for treating her like the 'baby' all the time, and she was terrified of riding without training wheels and breaking her arm, like Denver did once. Sienna wasn't even born then, but it's one of those infamous family stories that still gets hauled out from time to time, ( and, in actual fact it was when Denver was still on training wheels that it happened), but all Sienna could see was bike = broken arm. Unfortunately because she is so big now, whenever she leaned one way or the other, the training wheel on that side would bend up underneath her weight. It was definitely time for two wheels. After a few panicky attempts, I dug out helmet, pads, and a pillow, which I taped to her, and she finally felt secure enough to give it a decent shot. And what do you know? Half an hour later, her pads slowly coming off a bit at a time she was riding a two-wheeler!

She tore around the neighbourhood all day yesterday, earning congratulations from various neighbour's. She keeps saying, 'I can't believe I'm riding this!' And neither can mummy really!

The Word Party

Loving words clutch crimson roses,
Rude words sniff and pick their noses,
Sly words come dressed as foxes,
Short words stand on cardboard boxes,
Common words tell jokes and gabble,
Complicated words play Scrabble,
Swear words stamp around and shout,
Hard words stare eachother out,
Foreign words look lost and shrug,
Careless words trip on the rug,
Long words slouch with stooping shoulders,
Code words carry secret folders,
Silly words flick rubber bands,
Hyphenated words hold hands,
Strong words show off, bending metal,
Sweet words call each other 'petal',
Small words yawn and suck their thumbs,
Till at last the morning comes,
Kind words give out farewell posies....
Snap! The dictionary closes.
